How to Calculate Your Score

Add up the numbers from all 7 items. Your total score will be between 0 and 28.

What Your Score Means

  • 0–7: No clinically significant insomnia.

  • 8–14: Sub-threshold insomnia. (You might be struggling during the day due to sleep, but it may not be a full clinical disorder yet).

  • 15–21: Clinical insomnia (moderate severity).

  • 22–28: Clinical insomnia (severe).

Important: If you are scoring in the Clinical ranges, it is worth talking to a professional. Sleep hygiene is great, but sometimes there are deeper anxiety or physiological "loose threads" we need to tie up together. If you are in immediate distress or having thoughts of hurting yourself, please reach out for support. You are not alone, and help is available 24/7.

  • Call or Text: Dial 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
