UCLA-3

UCLA Three-Item Loneliness Scale

Instructions: Please indicate how often you feel the way described in each of the following statements.

How often do you feel...

Hardly Ever (1) | Some of the time (2) | Often (3)

1. That you lack companionship?

2. Left out?

3. Isolated from others?

How to Calculate Your Score

Add up the numbers for all 3 questions. Your total score will be between 3 and 9.

What Your Score Means

  • 3–5: Low Loneliness. You likely feel a consistent sense of connection to the people in your life.

  • 6–9: High Loneliness. A score in this range suggests that you may be experiencing a significant lack of social connection.

A Note from Vibe: Loneliness isn't about how many people are in the room with you; it's about how connected you feel to them. If you’re scoring high, it’s not a personal failing. It’s a sign that your social battery needs some nourishment.
